Herminia Reyes celebrates over 20 years of skilled experience

Partners with Local Community Organizations and Agencies to Provide Assessment and Training; Crisis Intervention

LOS ANGELES, CA, November 11, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ — Given that opening in 2008, the Los Angeles Campus of The Chicago School of Professional Psychology (TCSPP) has offered a host of free of charge or low-cost services to the local community, such as crisis intervention training; workshops on topics from post-traumatic stress disorder to substance abuse; mental well being counseling; and research in partnership with nearby organizations and agencies. TCSPP lately supplied a physical home for much of this function, with the formal launch of its Forensic Training Institute (the Institute), located just upstairs from TCSPP at 617 West 7th Street in Los Angeles.

“Our discussions with agency and community partners uncovered the need for psychology-related training services for the forensic community,” said Debra Warner, Psy.D., lead faculty for the Los Angeles Campus’ doctoral program in Clinical Forensic Psychology and director of the Forensic Training Institute. “Our mission at the Institute is to provide outstanding training to the community although offering our students career development and hands-on learning in delivering the majority of the trainings.”

Each year TCSPP’s Forensic Psychology Departmentand now the Forensic Training Instituteoffers a Crisis Intervention Conference, where community leaders, law enforcement, academics, ex-gang members, parents, and others come together to participate in a free 8-hour crisis intervention training delivered by doctoral students and faculty at TCSPP. Last year, the conference hosted 400 participants, and will increase capacity at this year’s conference, now that the Institute has its own facility.

The Institute has also partnered having a large number of nearby agencies and organizations to provide training and assessment, which includes the Los Angeles Police Department, Sheriff’s Department, Coroner’s Workplace, and City Attorney’s office; as well as with community organizations, in large part via its relationship having a Greater LA, a non-profit organization that empowers grassroots leaders to transform their own neighborhoods. Additionally to delivering training for partners of A Greater LA, the community organization has provided a $75,000 grant to the Institute for investigation on the efficacy of its community intervention programs. Part of this analysis resulted in two student posters shown at the 2010 American Psychological Association Convention.

“The Forensic Training Institute has worked closely with a Far better LA on a number of parts of its strategy to transforming communitiesstrategic planning, providing interns for mental well being services, guidance around evidence-based practice, and guidance around training community outreach workers,” said Brian Center, executive director of A Greater LA. “In many respects, this project is just getting started, but we have seen great outcomes to date. Homicides are down in each of A Greater LA’s target areas, and historic relationships have been created between law enforcement, outreach workers, and the community. A model has been developed to create lasting change, and also the Chicago School has been inside the middle of that approach.”

Students from a variety of psychological disciplines in addition to forensic psychology are involved in providing services via the Institute, said Dr. Warner, such as those studying clinical psychology, industrial and organizational psychology, and organization psychology.

“Developing and delivering training, additionally towards the study I have done in connection using the Institute, has been an incredible studying experience,” said Samantha Saucedo, a second-year student in TCSPP’s Clinical Forensic Psychology doctoral program. “This function has given me the opportunity to practice my newly acquired abilities, as well as to develop a multi-cultural sensitivity that will inform my function and career.”

NoMachine NX plays an important role in providing schools in the creating country of Grenada with first-ever computing technology

ROME, ITALY, November 11, 2010 /24-7PressRelease/ — NoMachine, creator and global provider of secure remote access, desktop and application delivery software, is partnering with NoPC to assist in making computing resources available to schools in Grenada. NoMachine’s NX is the key connection technology providing students and teachers with access to a desktop, Web browser, e-mail and other critical applications stored on the data center in St. George.

Using NX technology, like in Tanzania, NoPC has provided inadequately funded schools in Grenada with computing capabilities that they normally couldn’t even imagine. Using NoPC thin client terminals within the classroom as PC substitutions creates the energy and cost-efficient solution required and reduces the need for maintenance, assistance and upgrades. High failure components are eliminated and five workstations use under 100 watts.

Similarly to the Tanzania project, NX provides access to the computing resources stored on the data center, but in Grenada instead of using the mobile network, due to poor coverage, to make the connection, they use broadband which is essentially transmitted via a copper wire. NX is especially beneficial in this atmosphere permitting access even over limited bandwidth with unique compression and caching features.

With NX providing remote access, students and teachers in Grenada now have access to Edubuntu desktops running on Linux and programs that serve as educational tools that allow for collaboration with other schools around the world and provide new resources for studying and communicating.

This was the second computing solution NoPC supplied to a creating area, the very first being to Tanzania in East Africa.
